“Top 5” – Essy Noir

Introduction: I met Essy online in a fashion and style forum in 2015. Before everyone quit blogging for Instagram, the big site to post fashion outfits was Lookbook.nu. Me and Jessica, my gf, would comb the site for dope styles, and when someone stuck out(a lot did), we’d reach out to ask them our Top 5 Questions about their life, creativity, and inspirations.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself. What’s your ‘Fuzion’?

My name is Essy, and I’m a fashion blogger and freelance model from Los Angeles, California. I’m Korean/Japanese- American and travel to/from Tokyo often (which is why some people may call my fashion sense “funky”). I would say that I fuse a plethora of styles together. Where do I start… I’d describe my style as minimal with an edge, with japanese street style elements and an elegant touch.

2. At what age did you become interested in fashion? What got you interested in it?

I’ve been interested in fashion all my life. In elementary school, when we were asked the generic question “What do you want to be when you grow up?”, I answered “Fashion Designer”. It’s coincidental that my answer somehow came to be. I honestly can’t really remember what got me interested in fashion. I’ve been reading Vogue since age five and used to cut up fashion ads and paste them all over my walls.

3. Where do you get your style inspiration from?

My style inspiration comes from what’s inside my head. I don’t really look at others for inspiration, but it might just be all those fashion ads I used to cut up just flowing through my head, haha. If I like it, I like it—not because some celebrity is wearing it.

4. Would you say that your style defines who you are?

Yes, I would definitely say that my fashion defines who I am. There’s obviously more than what meets the eye, but I believe in fashion as a form of expression. To me, fashion is making a statement without having to say one word.

5. What’s your favorite place to shop?

My favorite place to shop is online! I used to thrift along Melrose Ave., but got sick of seeing the same things in every store. The internet is a 24/7 shopping center, and I’m in love with it!
